Skip Paznokas is passionate about helping teachers in any way possible!
He has devoted many years of his professional career to
helping teachers get the equipment they need in order
to give students a world-class experience in the their
science classrooms. This is equipment that is generally
unavailable to teachers because of its expense and
maintenance. The development and growth of his
Equipment Loan Program is the vehicle for getting this
equipment into classrooms throughout the state of
Washington. The Equipment Loan Program is the project
that lights up Skip's eyes, brings passion to his
voice, and keeps him awake at night thinking of ways to
improve the program and keep it funded.
The Equipment Loan Program started with a grant from
the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in 1992 and has
been continuously funded by a variety of grants and
donations. The current budget crunch at WSU and across
the country now makes it much harder to fund this
important program. The program serves over 100 schools
(approximately 15,000 students) each year in Washington
State so it is critical to find funds to keep the
program alive! Some of the most popular equipment is
DNA electrophoresis kits and also water quality test
kits. The program supports the shipping and use of the
equipment to the schools. Recently, the program has
expanded to support university science methods
professors across the state with equipment to instruct
future teachers how to teach environmental and
sustainability skills and concepts.
Teachers across Washington are indebted to Skip for his
commitment to seeing that they have the state of the
art equipment they need for bringing high quality
science alive in their classrooms.
Washington State University College of Science would
like to honor Skip Paznokas by setting up an endowed
fund in his name to help sustain the equipment loan
program for years to come. Please
help us honor Dr. Skip Paznokas by supporting this
fund.
